I’ve never been to counselling before. What can I expect in the first session?

In our first session, we’ll spend some time talking about consent for counselling, what you want to get out of counselling, and our plan for moving forward. The first session looks (and feels) a little different than subsequent ones. It’s also a great chance for you to get a feel for me as your counsellor to make sure that I’m a fit for you.

How long are sessions?

Unless otherwise specified, sessions are 60 minutes in length. If you would like to book a longer session, please inquire.

How often will I have sessions?

This depends on the individual, couple, or family. On average, once every two weeks, but it’s very flexible! We’ll discuss a schedule that feels right for you.

How much does a session cost and how can I pay?

Current session rates are $200/session. You can pay via e-transfer or with all major credit cards. Please note that a credit card is required at the time of booking. If this creates a barrier for you, please reach out.


Can I use insurance?

Absolutely! I am a registered social worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers and have a Master of Social Work (MSW). Most insurance companies cover my credentials, but I always encourage folks to double check the fine print of your policy.

Does The Sunroom Counselling offer direct billing?

Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t offer direct billing. After payment, you’ll receive a receipt with my credentials on it that you can submit to your insurance provider.

I’m not sure if counselling will help with my concern. Will it?

Great question! Chances are, if you have a concern and it’s brought you to this website, you could most likely benefit from counselling. But if you’re not sure, book a free 20-minute phone consultation. We’ll briefly talk about what’s going on for you and if this is a fit.

I’m coming to Ensemble Healthcare for a perinatal counselling session. Can I bring my baby with me?

Absolutely. If you don’t have childcare or would simply prefer to bring your little one with you to your session, you certainly can! We can also have virtual sessions if that makes it more accessible for you during this time. I’ll do what I can to accommodate your needs!
